As many of you already know, and I have recently discovered, ICP-MS instruments come equipped with quite a few bits and pieces that need maintenance and replacing. One of those consumables is the nebulizer, which is used to turn samples into an aerosol to be analyzed. One of the nebulizers we sell is a parallel path nebulizer from Burgener Research Inc. One of the benefits of this type of nebulizer in comparison to a concentric path nebulizer is that it has a much larger sample path cross section area which means that it clogs less. It makes it more suitable for samples containing high amounts of solids. These particular nebulizers are also Teflon which doesn’t require as much maintenance because you get less salt build up. There are so many different types of nebulizers, I feel like I haven’t even scratched the surface. Hopefully I can talk to some customers who use nebulizers and find out more about them!
