Monday, March 22 marked World Water Day! One of the products that we carry at CPI is Colitag. This product is designed to test for E. coli and Coliforms in water which can be used to protect people from contaminated water. I wanted to learn a little bit more about how the lack of clean water is affecting others around the world. I found this article on MSNBC which discusses how truly serious this situation is in many developing countries. The article discusses how toxic waste waters are contaminating water supply sources in developing countries and are crippling communities with death and illnesses. The statistics reported in the article are startling: “The report said a lack of clean water was killing 1.8 million children under five every year” and that contaminated waters “had left huge ‘dead zones’ that choke coral reefs and fish”.
“UNEP director Achim Steiner, ‘Wastewater is quite literally killing people.’”
So this year for World Water Day lets be thankful that we have access to clean drinking water when so, so many in the world do not!
